Believe…if
you will…there is something very mysterious about “happenings” in the early
hours. That moment in time, when pale pink dawn becomes golden glow sunrise…magic…
I assure you, happens… move quickly
past reason…directly to maybe…take a peek…and don’t look back –Serendipity Bovlier
The early
morning sun was just beginning to filter through the branches of the giant Oaks
when Robin spotted Rabbit. “R-a-b-b-i-t, h-e-y R-a-b-b-i-t,” Robin trilled,” as
he tried to get the busy Rabbit’s attention. “Can I ask you something?”
“Not now…not
now, Robin, Rabbit mumbled absent mindedly, much too busy, maybe later.”
Robin tried, as best he could, to stay interested in
Rabbit’s puttering about and wait patiently for him to finish, but, alas, he
was much too eager to ask about that Silly Cement Dog.
“Rabbit,
Rabbit, p-l-e-a-s-e, I have a very
important question,” Robin persisted. Rabbit continued bustling about, still
mumbling, “busy…busy…much too busy.”
“Ok, R-a-b-b-i-t,
but…I really really need to tell you, that Silly Cement Dog is smiling, and he just told
me, he’s waiting.”
Without even glancing
up, Rabbit slowly placed the basket he was filling with acorns and pine nuts
carefully on the ground, then, turned his attention to the noisy little bird, who
was now perched directly over his head. A look of amazement on his face, he asked,
with a most disbelieving tone, “You can hear
the Cement Dog?” “Sure, chirped Robin, now hopping playfully from branch to
branch, can’t you?”
“No, not yet,
Rabbit admitted sadly, but, I do know the legend.” Suddenly, Robin stopped
chirping and hopping about and turned his gaze directly down to Rabbit, and
said, almost in a whisper…which is in fact his quietest voice, “what’s a legend”?
Before Rabbit
could even think of a good answer, he felt the change already taking place, forest
time was about to stand still, of that he was sure. Their woodland home hushed,
was now bathed in twilight glow, no breeze, no birdsong at all, not even the
whisper of the clouds.
With a nod
and a wink, Rabbit motioned Robin near. A wiggle of his long gray ears and the
twitch of his velvet nose, beckoned Robin closer. Rabbit, grinned his best
bunny grin and with magic twinkling in his bright eyes leaned in to share the
secret....
Believe – to be of the opinion that something
exists
especially when there is no absolute proof of its existence or reality
Legend - an old story or group of
stories that have been
passed down for generations
The Cast of
Character today, still our little friends, Rabbit and Robin…what about that Silly
Cement Dog? What part will he play in our story of legend, beliefs and magic?
You’ll see…next time
I am reminded
as I write, that there is neither proof nor visible evidence for the beliefs
that I hold dear or the stories that our family has shared for generations,
yet, I believe, beyond the shadow of a doubt...that I am a child, of The Father
of the Sky, he knows my name, and when I turn my face to him in flight, like
the little hummingbird, I shine. As we celebrate this joyous season, it is by faith alone...no proof needed. Be kind to each other…sam
